ISLAMABAD:

The Ministry of Interior has directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to probe the allegations levelled against the top leadership of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) by Sarfaraz Merchant, sources said on Tuesday.

The inquiry team of the FIA, which has been specifically formed for Merchant, will investigate allegations of money laundering, illegal purchase of weapons and funding of the RAW to the MQM.

Sources say the committee has issued summons to Sarfaraz Merchant to appear before it to record his statement in this regard, besides providing relevant evidences to the committee.

The interior ministry has also issued a letter to all security organisations and intelligence agencies to share any proof related to the case with the inquiry committee of the FIA.
