In safe hands: Rape survivor escapes in-laws' attempt to kill her

The police took her to Khanpur hospital where a lady doctor examined her and sent some samples to a laboratory

A woman was raped on Monday morning but when she told her family of the ghastly incident, her brothers-in-law declared her a kari and tried to kill her.


H*, wife of Muhammad Nawaz Brohi, is a resident of Bego Brohi village in Khanpur. She said had gone to fetch feed for her cattle when she was attacked and raped by Muhammad Ishaq Brohi, who was hiding in the bushes.

After the incident, she went home where her brothers-in-law tried to kill her. However, she survived the attack and went to the police.

In her statement, H* said she has been married for around ten years and is the mother of three children. Her husband works as a labourer in Karachi and she resides with her in-laws.

The police took her to Khanpur hospital where a lady doctor examined her and sent some samples to a laboratory. On her complaint, the police have registered a case against five suspects, including, Ishaq and the woman’s brothers-in-law Raheem Bux Brohi, Saddam Hussain Brohi, Noor Muhammad Brohi and Khan Muhammad Brohi. The suspects are yet to be arrested.

H* was presented before a civil court on Tuesday, where she recorded her statement. According to the police, the rape survivor said she wants to live with her father as she feels threatened by her in-laws.

The court handed her over to her father, identified as Din Muhammad Brohi, confirmed Khanpur police station head constable Abdul Hameed Abro.
