KARACHI:

The finance director of the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) has been arrested by the anti-corruption department on Tuesday.

The director, Shukri Rehman, was arrested from outside his office located at Ameer Khusro Road in the East district of Karachi. "Our personnel were already present outside his office and arrested him as soon as he started to enter the office," inspector Imtiaz Banday of the East district's anti-corruption department told The Express Tribune. "The accused has been arrested over his involvement in corruption worth around Rs20 million."

The officer said the department took action following the complaint received by the Sindh education department, which had complained about the accused being involved in corruption. "The accused used to give tenders to his favourite companies and all of them were involved with him," explained Banday. "The education department has already conducted an internal inquiry against him and has found him guilty." An FIR has been registered against the accused while he has been taken into custody for a two-day remand. Further investigations are under way.
