Duo claim 18 wickets to hand SBP sweet win over Candyland

KARACHI: The aggressive bowling duo of Zahid Mehmood and Kashif Bhatti fired SBP to an innings and 118 run-win over Candyland on the second day of their second-round fixture of the Patron’s Trophy (Grade II) Cricket Tournament at the SBP Ground in Karachi on Tuesday.

Candyland resumed their first innings on 36-4 but were bowled out for a paltry 147 as Bhatti took 5-34 and Mehmood claimed 4-55 runs to make Candyland follow-on.

Still trailing by a massive 252 runs, Candyland were even more hopeless the second time around as they were dismissed for 134 with Mehmood and Bhatti adding six and three wickets respectively to their first innings haul.

In another match, off-spinner Intizar Ali’s six-wickets helped PIA defeat Pakistan Oilfield Limited by an innings and 21 runs.

Elsewhere, centuries by Baber Hussain Aga and Hamza Ghanchi helped Navy post a massive 472-run total — 64 more than PTV’s first innings total. Aga scored 179 off 159 balls, while Ghanchi played a 111-run knock. At the end of play, PTV had piled up 175 runs for the loss of one wicket in their second innings.

Meanwhile, Nadra needed 108 more runs against Brighto Paints at the end of the day’s play in their second innings to avoid an innings defeat. Railways, however, were cruising at 86-2 in their second innings against KPT when play ended, with an overall lead of 162.

Similarly, KE were in a commanding position against Customs, having scored 103 runs for the loss of two wickets, with their overall lead at 215 runs.

In another match, Dollar East amassed 419 runs in their first innings against Income Tax with the help of a century by Usman Saeed (171). In their second innings, Income Tax had scored fifty without a loss.
