Former Pakistan veteran batsman Inzamamul Haq expressed his disappointment over the World T20 squad picked by the selectors on Monday.

“I don’t think Pakistan can do very well in the World T20, if they field the same squad they played in Asia Cup,” said Inzamam. “This Pakistan side lacks quality batsmen. Had there been any, they would have presented a good fight against India or Bangladesh.”

Inzamam felt that in case of an injury, Pakistan will face a difficult task to fill in the vacant space with an equally potent replacement.

Five players to watch at World T20

“Injury may be a major threat for Pakistan because unlike India they don’t really have any strong back-up in the pipelines.”

Conversely, chief selector Haroon Rashid had earlier backed the bunch to do well in India and said only one slot needed to be filled despite the team’s collectively poor showing in the Asia Cup.

“I still believe we’ve got a good bunch that will do well in the World T20,” Haroon told The Express Tribune. “We’ve got talented players in the team but it is about doing well in all aspects of the game — batting, bowling and fielding.”

Five players likely to retire after World T20

The chief selector believes they have chosen the cream of the crop and the onus is now on the players to deliver. “These are Pakistan’s best players and they must take responsibility,” he said. “We made only one change; and that too because Manzoor just couldn’t perform while Shahzad was impressive in the Pakistan Super League.”

Moreover, Haroon added: “Obviously this team can do well. All they need is self-belief. I believe in this unit and the players must back their ability too. There is no reason why Pakistan can’t put up a good display.”

alam | 8 years ago | Reply Inzamam ul Haq is saying correct. Our team selectors should see ground realities. Pakistan has never win a match from India in any tournament in previous 33 years (World Cup 1983 - Asia Cup 2016). There were certain reasons for defeat of green shirts but team selector are held responsible for that. Moreover, it has been observed in last five years tournaments that whenever Pakistani players play against India they got nervous and gone under pressure from the beginning of the match. One can judge it from their body language (fielding, bowling and loose shots in bating). So, no hope for winning of green shirt today. All should pray for rain.
