Law and order: ‘Robber’ killed in shootout

Police said the man had been identified as Shah Jahan, a resident of Chak 214-RB Dhuddiwala

Samanabad police on Saturday claimed to have killed a robber in a shootout. His accomplices, police said, managed to escape.


A police spokesman told newsmen that four robbers in a car had stopped Muhammad Shehzad at Risala Road near Graveyard Mor and took away his motorbike and Rs55,000.


He said on being informed, Samanabad SHO Muhammad Khalil took a team to Shadab Colony where they encircled the robbers. He said the men opened fire at the police team and attempted to escape. He said the men drove over three pedestrians, injuring them seriously in their bid to flee. He said one of them later died at a hospital.


He said the police team chased the robbers to a road divider near Bohar Chowk and forced them to stop.


He said three robbers who were riding the stolen motorbike fled. He said one of them had been injured in the shootout with police and died on the way to the hospital.


Police said the man had been identified as Shah Jahan, a resident of Chak 214-RB Dhuddiwala, who was wanted for several murders and robberies.


The spokesman said a team had been constituted to find and arrest his accomplices.


He said the team was conducting to trace their whereabouts.
