Misappropriation: Owner of LRH medical store arrested

The official added Rs8.9 million had been pocketed by high-ranking LRH officials under this head alone

PESHAWAR: The owner of the medical store at Lady Reading Hospital along with Rafiq Khan, the supplier, and Tariq Khan, the storekeeper, were taken into custody over alleged embezzlement in the purchase of medicines. An official of the anti-corruption department told The Express Tribune an investigation into the purchase of medicine revealed funds worth Rs100 million have been misappropriated. “An FIR has been registered,” he said. “Raids are under way to arrest other LRH officials.” He added other irregularities in the allotment of parking and shops to the suspects had also come to the fore. “We discovered that since 2007, these shopkeepers have not paid rent under the proper head,” he said. The official added Rs8.9 million had been pocketed by high-ranking LRH officials under this head alone. “A questionnaire has been issued to the relevant officials and contractors,” he said.
