Thus far, the hit record has sold north of 8.3 million copies in the US alone, ever since its release on November 20. It has also spent ten, non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 charts.
As Adele retained her top spot, she held off new albums released by Rihanna and Justin Bieber. R&B singer Rihanna’s latest album Anti climbed up to the penultimate spot, selling about 80,000 units through the week. At No3 stands Canandian superstar Justin Beiber with his album Purpose, dropping one spot with 63,000 units sold. Rapper Yo Gotti’s record The Art of Hustle came in fourth place and was the only new entry to make a debut in the top ten of the Billboard 200 this week.
Rolling in the deep
On the Digital Songs chart – which measures song sales over the internet – Rihanna’s duet with rapper Drake on the single Work climbed one spot to No1, with 169,000 copies sold.
Needless to say, Adele is well on her way to music domination. The 27-year-old singer also swept over the BRIT Awards just last week, the top music honours in her home country. The event saw Adele win four awards, amongst which was the much-coveted album of the year. In fact, Adele’s reign over the international music charts has seemingly remained immune from her unfortunate performance at the Grammy’s last month, which was marred by a fallen microphone and unsteady notes.
