Pakistan's newly-appointed interim bowling coach Azhar Mahmood said on Monday that the team's pace attack is the best in the world.

“We have one of the best bowling sides in the world,” said Azhar. “There is no doubt about that.”

Pakistan went in with four fast bowlers against India in their Asia Cup opening match against India, where the men in green lost by five wickets, but not before giving the world’s strongest batting line-up a scare in a chase of mere 84 runs.

Even team captain can be dropped if he doesn't perform, warns PCB chief selector

The former Pakistan all-rounder believes the unique trio of left-armers Muhammad Amir, Mohammad Irfan and Wahab Riaz are among the best fast bowling attacks in the world at present.

“We all know that Muhammad Amir is a proven match-winner and then you add a seven-footer in Mohammad Irfan who has an advantage of height, the pace battery of the side looks really exciting. Not to forget we have Wahab Riaz as well,” the 41-year-old said.

The Islamabad born all-rounder went on to say that the inclusion of Mohammad Sami helps in adding variety to the attack. “We have a line of left-arm quicks, and the inclusion of Mohammad Sami only adds to the variety of the attack who can bowl at 145 kmph,"

Mahmood, who replaced Mushtaq Ahmed temporarily, said he accepted the role interim bowling coach in the blink of an eye. “I got a call from Waqar Younis a week ago. He asked me if I was interested in this role and I said yes in the blink of an eye”.
