ISLAMABAD:

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Sunday said that those who were criticising mass transit projects like the Orange Line Metro Train travelled in lavish vehicles.

Speaking on a news channel, Rashid said that the project would provide a respectable and standard means of transport to the common people.

“We all are availing the facility of subsidised flour and therefore no one should object to over the subsidy being given to the poor on transport.” The information minister said the project was being criticised just for political gains and that critics too would draw benefits from this facility after its completion.

He said the Punjab government was making efforts to develop the province, and other provinces should follow suit instead of criticising the project. Replying to a question, he said the train project was not a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) but that the provincial government had taken loan on soft terms for the project.

Replying to another question, he said the national heritage would be protected during the project.
