According to the anti-graft body the former Sindh education minister, Pir Mazharul Haq, and others allegedly earned up to Rs13 billion from 13,000 ‘bogus’ appointments in the education department. A source close to the matter in the NAB said that the anti-corruption watchdog has already initiated inquiry against Mazharul Haq, a die-hard PPP loyalist, over appointing fake teachers. “Today’s raid at the AG office is the part of the inquiry,” said an officer. “So far we have confiscated relevant files from 2010 to 2012.”
The NAB team investigating the matter has questioned Mazharul Haq a number of times in the past, adding that the NAB is currently inquiring the case and the arrests will be made if the former minister or any other was found guilty.
The teachers in question were appointed through fraudulent means. According to reports, these people paid heavy sums to get government jobs, but never performed their duties and kept drawing salaries from the accountant general office.
