Pakistan reaffirmed its steadfast support for the Palestinian cause during the second meeting of the 'Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution' held in Brussels on Thursday, the Foreign Office (FO) confirmed.
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to advance a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East, including the end of Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch represented Pakistan at the forum, which follows the inaugural meeting of the Global Alliance held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last year.
The alliance was established to coordinate international efforts towards tangible, time-bound measures aimed at securing a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Addressing the gathering, Baloch underscored Pakistan's unwavering support for the Palestinian people and reiterated calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
“The international community must intensify its efforts to ensure a comprehensive and just resolution to the Palestinian issue,” she said, adding that the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, is critical to achieving peace.
Baloch also called for the full membership of Palestine in the United Nations, emphasising that a just solution to the Palestinian question is vital for lasting peace in the region.
The meeting comes amid continued violence in Gaza, where Israel’s year-long military operations have resulted in the deaths of more than 44,000 Palestinians and left over 100,000 wounded.
The foreign secretary highlighted the urgent need for a ceasefire and comprehensive peace efforts to bring an end to the bloodshed.
