Maritime security officials arrested 88 Indian fishermen after their boats strayed into the country’s territorial waters in the Arabian Sea. Sixteen boats


The Maritime Security Agency caught the men while they were deep-sea fishing in Pakistani waters, violating the country’s territorial waters, states the agency.

The detained fishermen have been handed over to the Docks police for investigation, said Sherbaz, the head muharrar (clerk) at the police station, adding that a case had been registered against them under the country’s laws.

He said the accused would be brought before the court on Monday and they are likely to be sent to the Landhi jail, since suspects in such cases are not usually taken into physical remand.

The first information report against the fishermen has been registered under sections of the Foreigners Act, as well as the Fisheries Act.
