Smuggling: Man awarded four-year jail term

PESHAWAR:


A session court has awarded a man accused of smuggling narcotics four years in prison and Rs50,000 in fines. The convict has been identified as Usman, a resident of Nishtarabad.


The sentence was awarded by the court of additional and session judge Khalid Khan on Wednesday. Assistant public prosecutor Sanaullah argued Usman was arrested by the police and three kilogrammes of hashish and half a kilogramme of opium were confiscated from his possession.


Separately, another court ordered the release of three people arrested on charges of running a hawala business. The judgment was given by the court of additional session judge Usman Wali.


The Federal Investigation Agency had arrested Najibullah, Zaheerullah and Hafizur Rahman after Rs30 million were seized from their possession. They were booked for money laundering.


However, the court released the three due to the absence of sufficient evidence against them. It also ordered FIA to return the money and vehicle confiscated from them.
