KARACHI: Karachi Corps Commander Lt-Gen Naveed Mukhtar called on Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Wednesday to discuss issues pertaining to law and order, including the operation against terrorists, cases forwarded to military courts and the arrest of a terrorist involved in the Safoora Goth massacre.
“In a one-on-one meeting, Lt-Gen Mukhtar and CM Shah discussed the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) in its true letter and spirit,” a spokesman for the Chief Minister’s House said. According to him, both of them expressed commitment to continuing the targeted operation in Karachi and lauded the role of police, Rangers and intelligence agencies. The Sindh government has so far held 13 apex committee meetings in which many key security decisions were taken. The implementation of those decisions is being monitored at the government level.
Lt-Gen Mukhtar also discussed prosecution issues with Shah and was told that the appointment of new prosecutors was in process. “With the establishment of 10 more anti-terrorism courts and appointment of new prosecutors, pendency in terrorism cases will come down and they will be disposed of in time,” the CM House spokesman said. The chief minister also lauded the role of intelligence agencies and the army in thwarting the Hyderabad jailbreak conspiracy.
