Operation against criminals: One policeman killed, two injured in Shikarpur

Police also claim to have killed four dacoits

SUKKUR: During the ongoing operation against criminals in the katcha areas of Khanpur and Ghouspur, Shikarpur police claimed to have killed four dacoits, but failed to recover their bodies. One policeman has also been killed and two others injured in the exchange of fire, due to which the operation was temporarily suspended on Monday night.

It was reported that a heavy contingent of Shikarpur police, with the help of armoured personnel carriers and commandos, led by SSP Nisar Aftab and SP Masood Bangash has encamped near Garhi Tegho to carry out the operation.

The operation has been launched to recover three kidnapped persons, including a minor girl from Thull abducted over eight years ago. Instead, police on Monday recovered a woman, who along with five friends was kidnapped from Sehwan two years ago.

On Monday night, during the exchange of fire, police claimed to have killed four dacoits, but could not recover their bodies. A policeman, Ali Gul Mahar, was also killed and two others, identified as Abdul Jabbar and Mohammad Yousuf Pathan, were injured. The body and the injured were shifted to civil hospital Shikarpur. The Sindh government announced a compensation of Rs2.5 million for the family of the deceased policeman.

During the operation, police reportedly torched over ten houses, besides arresting more than ten suspects. Moreover, police have also seized over 100 buffaloes and cows, a tractor trolley and some motorcycles from the katcha area. The suspects have been shifted to an undisclosed location where they are being interrogated, said an official requesting anonymity. The police have refused to disclose the names of those detained.
