An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the police on the security duty of the owner of a private hospital in Clifton was shot dead in broad daylight on Monday.
The incident took place in Clifton's Block 5, within the limits of the Boat Basin police station. ASI Naveed Aslam, posted to the security zone police, was shot dead by armed motorcyclists. "Currently he was performing security duty for the owner of the Mother Care Hospital in Clifton," explained sub-inspector Younus of the Boat Basin police station. ASI Aslam was providing protection to Dr Qamar Abbas due to a threat to her security.
Dr Abbas was on her way to her home when armed motorcyclists intercepted her car and looted a mobile phone and other valuables from her. "The robbers then saw the policeman-cum-security guard sitting in the front seat of the car and snatched his pistol from him and then shot him once in his chest before fleeing," the officer explained. Dr Abbas was unavailable for comments when contacted.
