Sukkur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) president Khan Munwar Khan and Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) founder Dr Adibul Hassan Rizvi signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a cancer hospital in the city.
Sukkur is the third biggest city of Sindh but, it lacks civic and health facilities, said Khan during the ceremony. A 56,000-square-foot plot, located on the left bank of River Indus near Agha Qadirdad Khan Date Market, has been selected for the hospital.
Khan will provide all the funds required for the construction of the hospital and purchase of the equipment, while Rizvi will look after the management and operations. Khan is establishing the cancer hospital in memory of his son Khalid Khan, who died of cancer couple of years ago. The hospital will be named, 'SIUT Munawar Khan Cancer Hospital.'
‘SIUT is a model for developing countries’
Helping hand
Sukkur is the hub of business and industry but, its people especially the traders are reluctant to engage in charitable causes, said Dr Rizvi. More than Rs1.5 billion will be spent on construction of the building and an equal amount will be required for purchasing the equipment, he estimated.
