Quran recitation to be made compulsory in schools, says religious minister

Hajj policy for the current year would be announced after inking an agreement with the Saudi government

The federal government is planning to make the reading of Holy Quran with meaning compulsory from class five to 10, said the federal religious affairs minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf to the media on Friday.


For this purpose, legislation is already under way, he added. In order to implement 'Nizam-e-Salat', consultation is under way with all provincial governments, he said. "If needed, appropriate legislation would also be carried out in this regard," he informed, explaining that in Islamabad the model has been initiated in consultation with all the sects to offer prayers at the same time.


Under the federal government's 'model deeni madaris' scheme, 650 seminaries have been registered whereas 1,500 are going to be registered soon, revealed Yousaf.


He also announced holding an international interfaith conference in Islamabad soon, along with the establishment of a Quran complex in the capital where printing of the holy book would take place. Regarding the Hajj policy 2014-15, he said by and large the mission remained successful. He informed that the Hajj policy for the current year would be announced after inking an agreement with the Saudi government.
