Law ministry opposes treason bill

Express May 02, 2010

ISLAMABAD:

The law ministry opposed the bill that gives the average Pakistani citizen the right to lodge a case of treason.

According to law ministry sources, officials rejected the PML-N sponsored bill.

Khurram Dastageer, a PML-N MNA who prepared the bill, proposed the right be given to the common man, according to article 6 of the constitution.

The bill was submitted in the National Assembly Secretariat last month, to which the law ministry raised it's objections, claiming that the Federal Government has the sole right to lodge cases of treason.
