RATODERO: The Spanish woman, Lucia Carlo Maria, who locked herself in a hotel bathroom for over 24 hours, sought the sanctuary of a lavatory again on Friday.

Maria was admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday but, according to doctors, she is still refusing treatment.

CMCH Medical Superinten-dent Dr Zulfiqar Siyal said he wrote a letter to the Larkana DCO and asked that the woman be shifted to either the Women Police Station or Darul Aman. He said Maria had locked herself in the bathroom of the casualty ward and was refusing to come out. The DCO informed the hospital management that air tickets have been arranged and Maria will be flown to Islamabad.

He said that two staff nurses and one senior doctor from the hospital should accompany her and personally hand her over to the Embassy of Spain in Islamabad.

According to officials, Maria would be flown to Islamabad on Saturday evening via PIA flight PK692 from Sukkur along with two senior staff nurses, Rubina Shabnam and Samina Samson, and an administrative officer of the hospital.

Maria, in her 40s, had been living on her own in Larkana for over a month. She used to be a lecturer at the National University of Modern Languages in Islamabad and has been travelling across Sindh for research on shrines and heritage sites.
