PESHAWAR: Panic and fear gripped Municipal Inter College for Girls in Faqirabad after some people who looked suspicious were spotted on the premises on Wednesday.

Police told journalists the college administration spotted some unidentified men roaming around the college premises suspiciously and immediately informed the police.

The college was shut down and the students sent back home. The police rushed to the site. After a search operation, said the area was cleared.

When contacted, ASP Waseem said this was the third such complaint in recent days from the college administration. He said security measures around the college were in place as police rider squads were on duty during college hours around the premises.

The recent attack at Bacha Khan University has raised the spectre of fear at educational institutes.

All schools, colleges and universities in Pakistan, especially in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, have been put on high alert following unspecified threats. The government and educational institutes continue to discuss measures, which can be taken to keep schools safe at the micro level.
