RAWALPINDI: A meeting on Friday finalised arrangements for the launch of a 14-day anti-tetanus campaign starting January 17. District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Imdadullah Bosal was presiding and directed officials to work with commitment and dedication to make the campaign a success.

He also asked the public to fully participate in the campaign in a bid to save people from this deadly, yet easily avoidable disease.

The DCO also directed all departments and NGOs to completely cooperate with health department officials.

Imdadullah Bosal said that every union council of the district will have a doctor to supervise their work and advised all the departments to elect their focal persons for the success of the campaign through better coordination. He said banners and signboards to create awareness of the disease are being placed around the city.

District Health Officer Rawalpindi Dr Khalid Randhawa informed the meeting that a health centre has been set up, which can be contacted by phone at 0800-12012. He said that pregnant women and children could be saved by administering anti-tetanus shots adding that women could protect themselves from the disease forever after a cycle of five injections.

Dr Randawa stressed that anti-tetanus injections have no negative effects on the human body.
