ABBOTABAD:

Two cows were killed as a leopard is suspected to have attacked them in Majuhan village council of Havelian tehsil Tuesday morning.

Muhammad Ilyas, a resident of Hajia Gali village, told The Express Tribune he left both his cows to graze in a forest area in the village and went back home. He said as he usually did, he went to take the cows back home in the evening and found them dead, all bled out.

“Both the animals were partially eaten and were bleeding from their necks and other parts of their bodies which suggested they had been attacked,” he said.

He added since incidents of leopard attacks were frequent in the area, he was sure his animals had also fallen prey to the wild beast.

The farmer demanded compensation from the wildlife department for the loss of his livestock. When contacted, an official of the wildlife department said during snow season, leopards move down from snow-covered hills and peaks in search for food and attack animals.
