SHERGARH:

Hostilities between two MPAs in Shergarh deepened after a poster of one of the lawmakers on Lond Khwar Bypass Road was torn by unidentified men Friday night.

An official privy to the development told The Express Tribune there has been an ongoing tussle between MPA Jamshed Khan Mohmand and MPA Iftikhar Mashwani. Both lawmakers wanted their names to be highlighted in the inauguration of various development projects in the union council.

“Tensions between supporters of both MPAs had ceased for a few days,” he said. “However, Friday’s incident has stoked tensions.” Following the incident, hundreds of students and enraged supporters of Mohmand protested outside Lond Khwar College against the act.

Lond Khwar SHO Ahmad Ali Khan was successful in negotiating with the protesters. As a result, the demonstration was called off. A report was filed against those who vandalised the poster and investigation is under way.

Differences between the two MPAs started weeks ago and have trickled down from the individuals involved to their factions and groups.
