KARACHI:

A district court remanded on Thursday a senior police official to prison on charges of murdering his wife a year ago.

SP Mian Jamshed Inamullah was presented before district and sessions judge, Imdad Hussain Khoso, after the authorities were directed to ensure his presence.

The suspect was absconding in the murder case of his wife registered on behalf of the state. According to the prosecution, the officer was cleaning his weapon at his home in Defence Housing Authority on July 17 last year when it ‘accidently’ went off.

His wife, Hina, received the bullet in her head and was admitted to the Agha Khan Hospital for treatment. Five days later, she succumbed to her wounds. On the other hand, the suspect pleads innocence and asserts that it was just an accident. He adds that his children, servants and guards, usually present at his residence, witnessed the incident.

The judge sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand until the next hearing of the case. He was posted in Quetta, Balochistan when presented before the court.
