ISLAMABAD: A man was killed in firing at ‘suspected robbers’ by housemates in the small hours of Wednesday night. Five men allegedly tried to enter a house in sector I-10/1 but the sight of ‘intruders’ alerted the guard dogs inside the house. “The barking of the dogs then awakened Sardar Rafique Gujjar and other people who opened fire at the robbers,” one of the inmates told the Sabzi Mandi Police.

Police said one of the five robbers was hit by a bullet and died at the spot. Other four managed to flee. The dead robber was identified as Saeed Khan, a resident of Mardan.

In a complaint lodged with the police, Gujjar accused that the robbers wanted to break into a ‘dera’ of his son located next to his house. ‘His son was alerted by the dogs and thus saved from robbery’.

Police officials were sent to Mardan to ascertain the previous criminal record of the alleged robber and the whereabouts of his family. The body was sent to mortuary in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) hospital for autopsy.
