Rest in peace: UHS professor passes away

Prof Hannan had served in the Pakistan Army on various key positions between 1961 and 1996

LAHORE: University of Health Sciences (UHS) Department of Microbiology head Abdul Hannan died of a brain haemorrhage on Tuesday. He was 79 years old. Prof Hannan had served in the Pakistan Army on various key positions between 1961 and 1996.  Before joining the UHS in 2006, he had served as professor and Department of Pathology head at the Army Medical College, Rawalpindi, and as a microbiology consultant at Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, and King Fahd Military Medical Complex, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He had also served at the Islamabad Medical and Dental College, the Margalla Institute of Dentistry, Rawalpindi, and Fatima Memorial Hospital College of Medicine and Dentistry, Lahore. His teaching and research career was spread over 50 years. He had more than 60 publications to his credit. His major research work was related to typhoid fever, anaerobic microbiology, HLA tissue typing, multidrug resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis and hospital infection control. Funeral prayers were offered at his residence – 4-Jinnah Lane, Safraz Rafiqui Road, Lahore Cantt.
