KARACHI:

Opener Khurram Manzoor made a strong case for his return to the national one-day team as his timely century helped Pakistan A stay alive in the series, beating England Lions by 17 runs at the ICC Academy in Dubai.

Pakistan A were trailing 2-0 coming into the match, and were asked to bat first by Lions. They posted 288-5 in their 50 overs courtesy of Khurram’s brilliant 127-ball 113 runs, studded with three sixes and 11 boundaries. Fakhar Zaman chipped in with 51 off 70 deliveries.

In reply, the visitors were cruising to victory for almost 40 overs before centurion James Vince was run-out on a personal score of 102, with the team at 223-4 in 41.1 overs.

Poor show: Pakistan A register two losses in a row

Left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz made a double breakthrough to break the Lions’ back as they were dismissed for 271 in 48.5 overs. Sam Billings (51) and Liam Dawson (41) made handy contributions but in vain as Nawaz bagged a total of three wickets.
