HYDERABAD:

A suspect allegedly linked with Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was arrested from Nooriabad, Jamshoro on Monday.

Jamshoro SSP Tariq Wilayat identified him as Qamar Zaman Mehsud, 30, from North Waziristan, at a press conference in Kotri.

Mehsud was arrested from an under construction petrol pump on the Super Highway near Nooriabad, he claimed. Ten kilogrammes of explosive material, a bundle of wire, three hand grenades and an automatic rifle with 50 rounds were also seized from his possession.

The SSP claimed that Mehsud shifted with family to Kotri in 2014 after the start of military operation in North Waziristan. He later moved to Karachi where he allegedly collected extortion in the name of Pakistan Peoples Part and was involved in the killings of policemen. Wilayat informed that two of Mehsud’s accomplices escaped to Tank in the tribal areas, while one has been killed and another was in custody of the law enforcement agencies.
