Development agenda: World Bank president to visit Sindh

CM Sindh urged the World Bank to assist the provincial government in the the rehabilitation of the Sukkur Barrage

KARACHI:

The World Bank president along with two senior vice presidents will be arriving here to launch a new development partnership with the Sindh government on February 10.

A high-profile meeting took place regarding the upcoming visit between the Sindh government and the World Bank team led by World Bank Country Director Patchmuthu Illangovan at the CM House.

Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah urged the World Bank to assist the provincial government in developing sectors such as renewable energy, public transport, agriculture, irrigation along with the rehabilitation of the Sukkur Barrage.

“I am keen to receive the World Bank President and his team. His visit would further strengthen the partnership in the supreme interest of the people of Sindh,” he said.

“More than 32 companies have started their projects and experts have suggested that over 50,000MW electricity can be generated from the said corridors.

“There are vast investment opportunities in the transport sector in Karachi. Although the Sindh and the federal governments have launched two separate public transport projects, we require more to cater to the needs of this megalopolis city,” he added.
