Sajid Hussain, a student of the chemistry department at Bacha Khan University Charsadda, was one of the 21 unfortunate souls killed in the terrorist attack Wednesday morning.
The young man, the son of Zameer Shah, was from a relatively unknown place in Buner, known as Korea. Sajid was in his final semester with the rest of his life in front of him – till he realised he might not make it out alive.

According to reports, he spoke to a friend moments before he was killed by the militants. “Sajid called and told his friend what was happening at the university,” Shahid Hussain, Sajid’s cousin, told The Express Tribune over the telephone. Sajid said he did not think he would survive this attack as he could see militants entering his hostel.
Planning in the face of the unknown
Shahid said Sajid had called him just a day before on Tuesday, asking for Rs20,000 for his semester and hostel fee. And Shahid sent him the money, not knowing his cousin’s plans were going to become unfulfilled dreams.
He said Sajid had recently visited his village, Korea, and met almost all relatives. “He was adored by all, and was known as one of the most hardworking boys around,” Shahid told The Express Tribune.
Farzand, Sajid’s elder brother, said, “Even when he was little, he was always busy with his studies. His loss is a great tragedy for the family.” Farzand was still in shock and found it hard to say more about his loss.
Sajid’s body reached Korea village Wednesday afternoon. He was laid to rest in the evening the same day. Funeral prayers for Sajid were attended by a large number of people.
