FAISALABAD:

The Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Power Workers Union has called for a Youm-i-Mutalbaat on Tuesday (today). Pakistan Wapda Hydro Union regional secretary Chaudhary Sarfraz Hundal said on Monday that Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) workers had had enough and would up their scale of protest.

“We have been protesting against the planned privatisation of Fesco for months, he said. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had formed a committee to review the decision to privatise Fesco but neither has a committee meeting been convened nor has the decision been reviewed, he said. “We are weary of protesting before an apathetic government,” he said. On Tuesday, Fesco employees will lock out their offices and take to the streets to press their demands. He said workers’ unions at other power supply companies were planning protests across the country to express solidarity with Fesco workers as well.
