A matter of ‘honour’ : Two women strangled over karo-kari

SUKKUR: Two young women were strangled to death on the pretext of karo-kari in Ayaz Khan Golato village, in the limits of Risaldar police in Kashmore-Kandhkot district on Saturday. Tariq Golato suspected that his wife, Farzana, and his elder brother’s wife Maryam, were having extra-marital affairs with someone in the area. On Friday, while other family members were away, Tariq, with the help of his accomplices, strangled to death both the women and fled. Maryam’s brother, Ali Gul, told the police that Tariq, his brother Manzoor Ahmed, and others have killed his sister on the pretext of karo-kari. He said his sister was innocent and has been killed without any justification. Meanwhile, Risaldar police, on behalf of the state, have registered an FIR against three accused, identified as Tariq Golato, Shah Mohammad Golato and Ghulam Nabi Golato. Arrests have yet to be made.
