PESHAWAR: A newly-wed couple was poisoned in Chaghar Matti village in the jurisdiction of Paharipura police station on Sunday. The groom died, while the bride survived. A police official said the couple was identified as Ilyas, 25, and Saira, 19, who tied the knot on Saturday. He added the couple fell unconscious after unidentified people poisoned them. They were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital where Ilyas passed. Saira who survived told the police they were given a glass of milk and when they drank it, they fell unconscious. She said someone mixed poison in the milk. However, the police claimed the incident might have occurred due to suffocation. Meanwhile, locals told The Express Tribune the couple had a love marriage and many people were not happy with it.
