Rangers arrest three more suspects during separate raids

KARACHI: An alleged Lyari-based gangster was killed during an encounter with the paramilitary force, while two suspected target killers were apprehended during separate targeted raids and operations on Friday.

According to the Rangers, a suspected gangster was killed in Lyari when the paramilitary troops conducted an intelligence-driven raid against Lyari-based criminals. As the troops approached the criminals' hideout, the gangsters resorted to indiscriminate firing, the Rangers spokesperson said. One of the gangsters was critically wounded during the shoot-out between the criminals and the Rangers. He was shifted to Civil hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was later identified as Nasir Wachani.

The spokesperson said that the accused belonged to Uzair Baloch group, adding that he was involved in various cases of killings, extortion and kidnappings for ransom. Weapons were also seized from his possession.

Separately, Rangers claim to have arrested an alleged target killer, identified as Imran Raza, during a raid conducted in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The Rangers spokesperson said that the accused belonged to a militant wing and has confessed to being involved in at least 11 targeted killings. The suspected criminal has also been involved in various cases of extortion and attacks on police and Rangers.

"He even killed an apartment's watchman in Gulistan-e-Jauhar in 2011 for not opening the gate," the spokesperson claimed. After allegedly murdering a political figure, the accused also killed four people standing outside a marriage hall in 2012, the spokesperson said. The accused managed to escape to Dubai once the Karachi Operation began and had recently returned to the country. The spokesperson said that the suspect has been taken in a 90-day preventive custody.

On the other hand, another suspected target killer, identified as Mohsin alias Lamba, was taken into custody by the Rangers during a raid in Korangi. The Rangers spokesperson said that so far the accused has confessed to killing at least 10 people. He has also been allegedly involved in attacks on the police and Rangers and the murderous attack on Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi's chief Afaq Ahmed, the spokesperson said, adding that the accused has been taken in a 90-day preventive custody.
