A truck driver from the city, Taj Ali, submitted a complaint to the IGP, in which he said SHO Badabher and his team brought him to the police station where he was brutally assaulted. The man said he lost sight in his right eye after receiving blows to his head.
He was released from the lock-up after reportedly paying Rs1,500 as a bribe. The SHO is also said to have taken a bribe of Rs5,000 from the truck owner.
The IGP looked into the results of the DIG enquiry and the allegations were deemed authentic.
Consequences
In light of the findings, the IGP suspended SHO Ebad Wazir, Moharrar Shahid, Additional Moharrar Ihsan Shah, Head Constable Qasim, Moharrar Irshad, police mobile driver Khushdal and the gunner of the SHO, Head Constable Wahidullah, with immediate effect. He also ordered a departmental enquiry against the officials so they could be punished.
Meanwhile, the IGP, on the complaint of another citizen, also suspended a Tarnab (PS Chamkani) police moharrar with immediate effect and ordered another departmental enquiry.
The IGP was told through an SMS complaint that Tarnab Moharrar Head Constable Shahid took a copy of his car registration and was demanding Rs5,000 as a bribe for its return.
These allegations were substantiated in the enquiry report.
