Scores of workers of the Pakistan Draftsmen Technical Staff and the All Pakistan Diploma Engineer Federation from the Irrigation Department held a protest on Thursday against the government’s decision to bypass sub-engineers of the Drawing Establishment Technical Staff while deciding promotions of the Irrigation Department’s clerical staff.

Scores of clerks from the Irrigation Department in four districts participated in the demonstration in front of the commissioner’s office.

Diploma Engineers’ Federation Punjab president Haji Muhammad Farooq, divisional president Abdul Latif Arshad and zonal president Mukhtar Hussain Bokhari addressed the protesters. They said that the government had passed over the draftsmen technical staff and drawing establishment sub engineers for promotions for several years. “This is grave injustice.”

They said they would hold a protests in front of the district headquarters every Thursday and will discuss whether to expand the scope of their agitation.
