The Saddar police SHO told The Express Tribune that the 17-year-old girl, a resident of Chak 238-RB, had a romantic relationship with a boy from the same area. She had told her parents that she wanted to marry him but they had disapproved of it, he said.
On Wednesday morning, the two were found dead at a construction site in Awan Wala. They had bullet wounds to their heads and a pistol was found near the bodies.
The Saddar police were informed and took the bodies to Allied Hospital for post-mortem examination. They also gathered forensic evidence and interviewed some people in the area. The SHO said it looked like the two had committed suicide. “However, we cannot reach a final conclusion on this till we receive a post-mortem examination report,” the SHO said.
A close relative of the girl, who wished to remain unnamed, told The Express Tribune that the girl’s parents had arranged for her to be married to a man who was 10 years her senior and had three children from a previous marriage.
She said that the girl had refused to marry the man. “She had told her parents that she would marry the boy she was in love with in a court.”
The relative said that her parents had refused to back down and had arranged for the girl to be wed on Wednesday (January 13).
She went missing on Tuesday night and was found lying dead next to the boy she loved, said the relative.
