KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt continued his emphatic form on his return to competitive cricket as he smashed an unbeaten 99 at the National Stadium of Karachi in the second round of the National One Day Cup on Tuesday.

However, Butt’s efforts were in vain as Karachi Whites defeated his Wapda side by seven wickets, with another former international Faisal Iqbal scoring 89.

Put in to bat, Wapda were able to post 228 in 50 overs with Salman being the star of the show with the bat.

In reply, Karachi Whites reached the 229-run target in 47.2 overs with seven wickets remaining. Iqbal’s 89 and Saad Ali’s 74 in an unbeaten 150-run stand was enough to see them through on cruise control.

Meanwhile, a century by Zain Abbas and a five-wicket haul by Sadaf Hussain guided KRL to an emphatic 174-run win over Rawalpindi at the UBL Ground.

Put in to bat first, KRL posted a total of 325-6 as Abbas smashed a 124-ball 114. Chasing 326, Rawalpindi were dismissed for just 151 runs in 43.1 overs as Hussain claimed five wickets for just 27 runs. His haul included the wicket of Rawalpindi’s top scorer Sarmad Hameed (74).

In another match, at the NBP Stadium, hosts NBP defeated Lahore Whites by 56 runs courtesy of Kamran Akmal’s century and Muhammad Nawaz’s bowling efforts. NBP posted 293 runs in 49.4 overs as Akmal scored 119 runs, with Lahore Whites’ Mazharul Haq taking five wickets.

Chasing 294, Lahore Whites were restricted to 237 as Nawaz claimed 4-51 runs.

At the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad, HBL defeated Fata by 105 runs. HBL posted 325 with the help of Fakhar Zaman and Asad Shafiq scoring 78 and 66 runs respectively.

Butt, Asif return to domestic action

Chasing 326, Fata were restricted to 220 despite an unbeaten knock of 80 by Haroon Sadaqat.

Meanwhile, all other matches in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar were washed away due to rain.
