According to a handout provided by the Gujar Khan police station, a total of 686 cases were registered in city in 2015, including 11 murders, 21 attempted murder cases and 112 robberies. In 2014, this number was 837, including 19 murders and 29 murder cases.
Last year, residents were deprived of cash and valuables worth over Rs20 million. In addition, 16 vehicles and 24 motorcycles were stolen in 2015. By comparison, cash, jewellery and valuables worth Rs30 million were stolen in 2014, as well as nine vehicles and 24 motorcycles.
However, the police’s performance in recovering stolen property has not changed. shows not much difference as five vehicles, three motorcycles and Rs10 million in terms of cash and valuables were recovered by the police in 2015 as compare to four vehicles, one motorcycle, and cash and valuables around Rs19 million in 2014.
The police also arrested 81 criminals along cash, jewellery, vehicles and motorcycles worth more than Rs10 million in 2015, whereas the same police arrested 362 criminals the year before.
Further, five cases of animal theft were also reported in 2015 whereas four cases were registered in 2014. Road accidents also witnessed a decrease, with 24 cases reported in 2015, and 27 the year before.
The authorities also arrested 219 offenders and 198 court absconders in 2014, whereas this number was 144 and 70 in 2015, respectively.
In 2015, the police registered 78 cases under the anti-arms law and seized 62 pistols, three revolvers, five rifles, three Kalashnikov and 261 bottles of liquor. In 2014, the police arrested 198 outlaws in 199 registered cases and recovered 151 pistols, nine revolvers, five rifles, two Kalashnikov and 1,580 rounds of ammunition.
The same police also arrested 106 suspected drug dealers in 2015, and also seized 17kg of hashish, 2.5kg of heroin, and 2,783 bottles of liquor. In 2014, the police seized 20 grams of hashish, 700 grams of heroin, and 2,051 bottles of liquor in 164 cases.
The police also arrested 34 suspected gamblers with Rs226,000 in cash, mobile phones and other valuables in 2014. Interestingly, no cases of gambling were reported in 2015, as per the statistics shared by the police.
In addition, police seized 12 pistols, a revolver, a rifle, Rs124,5000 in cash and other valuables from 19 robbers in separate raids in 2015, but no gangs were busted in 2014.
Further, the police arrested eight thieves in animal theft cases along with animals worth Rs180,000 in 2014. No such thefts were reported in 2015.
