LAHORE: Eight suspects held for sexually assaulting a teenage girl at a private hotel on The Mall were on Friday sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.

The suspects were Adnan Sanaullah, Abdul Majid, Muhammad Umer, Ameer Ahmad, Haris, Bilawal, Qamar Zaman and Khalid.

Earlier, a police team presented the suspects in the Cantonment court and requested the judge to grant an extension in the physical remand of the suspects to facilitate interrogation.

However, the court sent the suspects on judicial remand and directed the police to submit the challan at the next hearing.

A medical examination of the 15-year-old girl, an eighth-grade student, was carried out at Services Hospital. The examination had confirmed that she was sexually assaulted. Forensic report of DNA samples had also confirmed sexual assault.

The FIR registered in the incident on sexual assault and kidnapping charges had stated that she was kidnapped and raped by eight men.

It said the girl was then abandoned in a hotel room and the family informed about her whereabouts through a text message.

In a statement to the media, her mother had said that she and her brother were on their way to a tailor’s shop near their house on Multan Road when she was kidnapped by the suspects. She said the girl’s brother and other relatives tried searching for her all day but were unsuccessful. She said that later in the day the family had received a text message from an unfamiliar number saying that they could find the teenager in a room at the hotel on The Mall.

She had told the media that the girl had been drugged and sexually assaulted by PML-N Punjab youth wing additional secretary general Adnan Sanaullah and his other accomplices.
