
He gave the review during his visit to NAB Karachi office for an annual inspection. A monitoring team was deputed to carry out an annual inspection of the Karachi bureau between January 6 and January 8. The review was based on a recently introduced quantified grading system in which NAB Karachi secured 88 per cent marks in operational efficiency index.
A senior member of the monitoring team gave a briefing to the NAB chairperson in which he shared details of how the inspection was carried out and highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of NAB Karachi bureau.
Grading system
The senior member shared that a quantified grading system has been devised, under which the performance of all NAB's regional bureaus is being evaluated using a uniform criteria between January and February this year.
Praise for NAB
According to the chairperson, NAB is Pakistan's apex anti-corruption organisation assigned with the responsibility of eliminating corruption.
NAB Karachi is one of the important regional bureaus, said Chaudhry. It played an important role in contributing towards the overall performance of NAB, he added.
The chairman was informed that NAB Karachi has disposed of 6,798 complaints during 2015. The number of complaints disposed of in 2015 was higher than the number of complaints disposed of in 2014 or any of the previous years.
In 2015, NAB Karachi completed 214 out of 270 complaint verifications. Out of 407 inquiries, the city bureau completed 328 inquiries, while it completed on merit 128 out of 240 investigations. During 2015, NAB Karachi also arrested 172 officials and filed 101 corruption references. The conviction rate was 63 per cent and the bureau managed to recover Rs18.6 billion of embezzled money.
Chaudhry pointed out that NAB Karachi's excellent performance under the supervision of NAB director-general Colonel (retd) Sirajul Naeem has been better than the past. He directed all officers at NAB Karachi to work harder to end corruption and corrupt practices from the country.
