Cooperatives Minister Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar said on Thursday that the Chief Minister’s self-employment scheme was an important step towards eliminating poverty in the province.

Over the last four years, 800,000 families have been given interest-free loans worth Rs16 billion.

“This has enabled them to lead financially secure lives.” Channar was addressing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz workers at his residence.

He said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had launched several programmes for the uplift of the poor. He said in the coming three years, two million families would be given Rs40 billion rupees worth of interest-free loans. He said the idea was to eradicate poverty from the province.

The loans will enable people to play a positive role in the development and prosperity of the country.
