LAHORE:

Badami Bagh police said they had recovered a child who had been abducted a decade ago from Multan.

The Badami Bagh SHO said the nine-month-old son of Khokhar Pind resident Mairaj Khalid had been abducted in 2005. The father had registered a complaint with the Badami Bagh police.  He said a police team had recovered Shahzeb, the boy, after raiding a house in Multan following a tip-off. The SHO said the boy had been in the care of Shazia Bibi, a Multan resident. He said a relative of Bibi’s had claimed that she had given birth to the boy and handed him over to Bibi to look after.

The SHO said police had obtained DNA samples of both families claiming the child. He said they would give the child to his real family following the receipt of results. Until then, the child would remain in the care of the Child Welfare Protection Bureau. He said a mutual acquaintance of the families had tipped-off police about the child’s whereabouts.
