DUBAI: Bahrain said on Wednesday it had caught an Iranian-linked cell plotting attacks in the Gulf island kingdom, Saudi-owned Al Arabiya TV reported, days after both countries cut ties with Iran.
"Bahrain (announces) the apprehension of a terrorist cell linked to the (Iranian) Revolutionary Guard and Hezbollah ... the members of the cell plotted bombings in the country," Al Arabiya said.
After Riyadh, Bahrain, Sudan cut ties with Iran
Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran erupted into a full-blown diplomatic crisis on January 4 as Riyadh and its Sunni Arab allies cut or reduced ties with Tehran, sparking global concern.
Following angry exchanges over Saudi Arabia’s execution Saturday of prominent Shia cleric and activist Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, Riyadh and then Bahrain and Sudan severed relations with Tehran, the main Shia power.
