MUZAFFARABAD: A protest rally was held on Tuesday in support of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

The rally was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Cell (JKLC), and was attended by workers and leaders of different political and religious parties in the region.

The protesters marched from the central press club to Gharipan Chowk and the UN Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP).

Protesters shouted anti-Indian slogans and demanded their freedom. Addressing the protesters, speakers appealed to the international human rights watchdogs such as the UN, OIC and EU to take the notice of Indian brutalities. Protestors lamented thousands of missing Kashmiris either killed or imprisoned.

The protesters presented a memorandum to the UNMOGIP and urged the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to settle the Kashmir dispute as per the UN Security Council resolution, passed on January 5, 1949.

In the memorandum, protestors urged the secretary general to use his office to put pressure on India to settle the issue.

Protest rallies were also held in the other cities and towns of AJK.
