Erratic rains: Climate change killing off honeybees

Dr Rashid said untimely rains have killed flower blossoms from which the bees collect the nectar to make their honey

ISLAMABAD: Environmentalists and bee keepers have termed rising temperature and unseasonal rains as the major cause of declining population of honeybees in the country. Dr Mehmood Khalid Qamar, a PhD in forests said deforestation might have reduced honey production, but unseasonal rains of the last few years have completely destroyed it. National Agriculture Research Center’s (NARC) Honeybee Research Institute, Senior Scientific Officer Dr Rashid Hussain said untimely rains have killed flower blossoms from which the bees collect the nectar to make their honey.
