Renowned physician Professor Dr Tariq Nishtar, son of the late freedom fighter Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar, was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in the provincial capital on Thursday.
Nishtar started his career in 1966 when he joined Khyber Medical College (KMC) in Peshawar as assistant professor of medicine. This was after he qualified as a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and completed his training in UK in 1965.
He was appointed professor of medicine in 1971 and served as secretary for health, social welfare and population planning from 1989 to 1991.
Nishtar retired from service in 1995, but his contribution to the medical profession was hugely significant.
After retirement, Nishtar served as the Frontier Red Crescent Society chairperson and remained a member of the senate of Khyber Medical University. He was awarded the status of Professor Emeritus.
