LHC sets aside earlier verdict in NLC case

On August 5, ISPR announced the dismissal of Akhtar from service

ISLAMABAD:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench on Tuesday suspended its earlier order wherein the dismissal of the former director general of the National Logistics Cell (NLC) Major General Khalid Zahir Akhtar was set aside.

On August 5, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced the dismissal of Akhtar from service. This entailed a forfeiture of rank, decorations, medals, honours and awards, as well as the seizure of pension, the recovery of personal gains and the cancellation of service and allied benefits including medical facilities.

LHC Judge Ibadur Rehman Lodhi on December 23 set aside the Court of Inquiry’s order and observed that the dismissal of Akhtar –in connection with a multi-billion rupee NLC scam – was in violation of the prescribed procedure.

The Defence ministry through its private counsel Tariq Mahmood Khokhar on Tuesday filed an intra-court appeal in LHC against its single bench order. The ICA is also fixed on same day.
